The Health Ministry today reported that there are 14,637 active COVID-19 cases in the country, in which 161 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) with 73 requiring ventilator support.
In a statement today, the Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that there were 1,268 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight decrease from yesterday.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, out of the 1,268 new cases, 1,263 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported infections. In addition, out of 1,263 locally transmitted cases, 74.9% or 946 of them were locals while 317 were foreigners.
Meanwhile, 1,083 people were recorded to have recovered from the infection.
Since the start of the pandemic, Malaysia has now seen 336,808 COVID-19 infections and 320,925 recoveries while recovery rate stood at 95.3%.
He also noted that two people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,246.
Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases with 490 infections, followed by Sarawak (141) and Johor (135).
On a related matter, Dr Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected four new clusters in the country while eight clusters have ended today. – March 24, 2021
