COVID-19: Number of ICU patients, ventilator dependents on the rise

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 6,999 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 565,533.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 5,121 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now stands at 484,787.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 6,995 cases were local transmissions. Meanwhile, out of the 6,995 locally transmitted cases, 91.3% or 6,385 of them were locals while 610 were foreigners.

Currently, there are 78,017 active cases, in which 846 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 419 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 79 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 2,729.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (2,477), followed by Kuala Lumpur (616) and Kelantan (612).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has found 17 new clusters in the country. – May 30, 2021
