COVID-19: Positive cases nationwide remain above 6k mark, over 600 at ICU

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 6,493 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 498,795.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 4,508 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now stands at 444,540.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 6,491 cases were local transmissions. Meanwhile, out of the 6,491 locally transmitted cases, 6,038 of them were locals while 453 were foreigners.

Currently, there are 52,106 active cases, in which 643 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 363 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 50 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 2,149.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again (2,163), followed by Kuala Lumpur (641) and Sarawak (612).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has found 18 new clusters in the country. – May 21, 2021
