Covid-19: Private sector, agencies in commodities sector donate essential equipment

KUALA LUMPUR: Several government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the commodity sector have come forward to contribute essential medical and protective items for health professionals and workers responding to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA), which has over 120 members, has donated items such as ventilators, Covid-19 test kits, hand sanitisers, face masks and personal protective clothing worth RM5 mil to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and NGOs.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), an agency under the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, and the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) have pledged to donate 21 million medical rubber gloves worth RM3.5 mil to the MoH and agencies such as the Police, Immigration Department and Fire and Rescue Department.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, in a statement today, said the contributions would help reduce the burden of the government in these difficult times.

It is also a sign of solidarity among the agencies and members of the associations in assisting the government, he said, adding that the distribution mechanism of the items would be undertaken by MPOA and MARGMA. – March 23, 2020, Bernama
