PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) fired a salvo on former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, alleging the latter of “being happy” with the grim situation.
“The one handling vaccination is a minister from Umno. The one enacting standard operating procedure is from Umno too. Our health minister is also from the same party.
“So where is the logic in blaming us? Don’t tell me Najib is accusing his own party members of sabotaging the pandemic response,” Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan asked in a Facebook post.
The enmity between allies Umno and Bersatu went up the scale after the former announced it was withdrawing support from Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin.
However, the move had somewhat created a “civil war” between Umno members who are aligned to Perikatan Nasional and those opposed to it.
Yesterday, COVID-19 daily infections breached the 9,000 mark, with Selangor recording over 4,000 new cases.
In a tirade against Najib, Wan Saiful called the former a man of low integrity, claiming he would be happy if COVID-19 cases spiked as the ex-premier could take credit for it by complaining about the situation.
“This is a just diversion tactic. He wants to show that the Government is divided but in reality, everyone is cooperating and working hard to contain the pandemic.
“That’s how low Najib is. Instead of showing empathy and helping the people, he is using the situation as a political capital to further his selfish agenda,” he alleged.
Najib unimpressed
However, Najib shot back at the Bersatu leader alleging it was he who was trying to divert public attention from the Government’s failure in containing the pandemic.
“Infection cases are skyrocketing and death toll is piling up. Patients are being kept at parking areas and basements.
“The Government announced a full lockdown for 14 days but made a U-turn within five days. So, I asked Bersatu why allow factories and shopping to resume during this dire situation.
“But what was Bersatu’s answer? Najib is ‘happy’ due to rising COVID-19 numbers and it gives him ammunition to criticise the Government.
“Is Wan Saiful really the information chief of Perikatan’s main party?” the Pekan MP queried. – July 10, 2021
