COVID-19: Three new clusters, four fatalities including a foreigner

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry reported 1,340 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement today, the ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said there were 1,067 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 77,309.

“With the 1,340 new cases, the total number of infections stands at 93,309.

“Unfortunately, four people have lost their lives due to the virus today, bringing the total death tally to 437,” he said.

The deceased comprised of a foreigner and three Malaysian men, aged 63 to 78. Two of them died in Sabah and the others in Selangor and Penang, respectively.

The locals had a history of chronic illnesses but the foreigner did not suffer from any pre-existing medical conditions.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases today with 441 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (284) and Sabah (196).

On related matter, Noor Hisham said the Government had detected three new COVID-19 clusters in the country in the last 24 hours.

The clusters are the Metropolis construction site (Kuala Lumpur), Estate Maju (Sabah) and Batu 39 (Johor)

“At the same time, three other clusters have officially ended today; which are Saga, Tatahan and Sakti (Sabah).

“Currently, there are 199 active clusters, of which 44 new infection cases were reported today,” he added. – Dec 20, 2020.
