COVID-19 vaccines for kids: Make early bookings before others snap them up!

FOLLOWING the rise of COVID-19 cases in schools, coupled with the arrival of the South African variant, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak urged the Government to make preparations to book vaccines for children as soon as possible.

“The Government should make early booking for the children’s vaccine even if the approval is still in question.

“Even if we ‘burn’ our deposits for failing to get approval, it’s alright as it is money well-spent compared to investing in J-Kom (Community Communication Department),” he said in a Facebook post.

Recently, the US announced that the COVID-19 vaccines for children are still being tested, with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) projected to approve them by 3Q2021.

Yesterday, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said that the Government has its own way of addressing the emergence of COVID-19 clusters in the education sectors.

She also expressed the need for the COVID-19 vaccination for children, as well as parents and teachers, to be expedited.

“The general public knows the vaccine is currently for those aged 18 and above. So, I urge and hope the vaccine for children can also be expedited,” Bernama reported Rina as saying.

Based on the timeline, Najib opined that Malaysia would only get the vaccines in the 4Q2021, which is already nearing end of the year.

“And that is assuming other nations have not snapped up the vaccines. So, please make early bookings to ensure we get access to the vaccines

“Let’s not repeat the same mistakes we made last year in making last minute arrangements,” the Pekan MP urged. – April 26, 2021
