COVID-19: Yet another record high for third consecutive day on Friday

MALAYSIA has reported a third straight day of record high COVID-19 cases, with the country recording 23,564 new infections today (Aug 20).

The previous record was 22,948 set yesterday (Thursday).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that this brought the cumulative number of cases in the country to 1,513,024.

He further announced that 21,448 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 1,241,894.

Meanwhile 233 people have succumbed today, bringing the death tally to 13,713.

Selangor has once again recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 6,974, followed by Sabah with 2,738 cases, Sarawak (2,548) and Kedah (1,932).

“Of the current active cases, 1,062 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 518 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – Aug 20, 2021
