CSR with a ‘Chinese herbal’ twist to empower special needs people

PROPERTY-BASED Selangor Dredging Bhd (SDB) has embark on a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme that places emphasis on Chinese herbs preparation to harness the work and social skills of young adults with disabilities.

Aptly called One-Two-Boost (OTB), SDB is collaborating with TCM (Traditional Chinese medicine) practitioners Lin Cze-Pern and Go Pei Heng who are also graduates from the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine to create special prescribed herbal drinks and soup packs.

“The initiative’s main intention was to launch a series of wellness drinks and soups, all single-handedly prepared and packed by young adults with disabilities under proper supervision,” enthused SDB managing director Teh Lip Kim.

“It is also aligned with goals to provide special needs people more job opportunities as well as to promote healthier community living. “

To realise the initiative, a controlled group of young adults with disabilities would gather on certain days at Wisma Golden Eagle Realty along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur where SDB’s headquarters is located to embark on their tasks.

“Apart from offering them a channel for employment, the projects undertaken by SDB do not just provide temporary assistance but also enable them to learn and improve their work and social skills,” reckoned Teh.

To purchase the products, customers can fill up the order form here or visit @OneTwoBoost on Facebook.

To date, SDB has thus far launched four other innovative CSR initiatives:

  • One-Two-Juice was launched back in 2011 to empower and support individuals with disabilities to lead normal independent lives. The fruit juice stall is operated by young adults with disabilities at the courtyard area of Wisma Golden Eagle Realty.
  • One-Two-Wash was introduced in 2014 to create more employment opportunities and cater for individuals with special needs. Located at Wisma Golden Eagle Realty, the initiative was implemented with specially designed processes and learning tools to assist these individuals to learn and follow through better.
  • Collaborating with Milestone Productions to host One-Two-Star in 2019 to further build the confidence of talented special needs children.
  • A soap-making project namely One-Two-Gift to create opportunity for special needs children to improve their motor skills by coaching them to produce naturally handcrafted soaps from shea butter for sale. – Feb 25, 2021
