Dagang Net eScroll now up and running

KUALA LUMPUR: Dagang Net eScroll, a blockchain-powered web application to authenticate certificates is now up and running, allowing employers, graduates, universities and training providers to authenticate academic and training certificates.

Blockchain Lead of DNeX Group Zainal Abidin Mohd Jais said the application has a unique signature with time-stamped certificates that can eliminate forgery, unlike traditional paper-based documents.

“Every certificate is tagged with a QR code linked to the blockchain, a secure, immutable and incorruptible database. Issuing institutions keep a register of certificates on the blockchain represented by the QR code,” Zainal told Bernama.

“Authentication of certificates is done simply by scanning the QR code. Thus, the verification process is made simple and transparent.”

According to Zainal, blockchain is an open, distributed digital ledger that records transactions efficiently in a verifiable and permanent way.

“Blockchain technology can also be described as a network of computers, each having an identical copy of the distributed database and changing its records by a common agreement based on complex mathematical algorithms.

“Blockchain does not need any centralised server, which enables shared responsibility of multiple parties that participate in the blockchain system. Unlike a regular database, blockchain has a non-destructive, immutable method to track data changes over time,” he added.

Zainal said the idea of eScroll is that it offers education providers, employers, students and others, official certificates that supply proof of graduation in a fast and efficient manner.

“The current system for sharing or issuing official certificates is slow and complicated, taking weeks or months. Blockchain is set to revolutionise academic credentials because it will allow individuals the capacity to possess and share their own official records,” he added.

According to Zainal, digital records registered on blockchain are all cryptographically signed and tamper-proof, which can eliminate forgery.

“Some time ago, I remember reading of syndicates selling fake university certificates and we believe blockchain is the answer to that problem. Universities can benefit from using this technology to protect their most precious product, namely graduates, and add value to their reputation,” he said.

Dagang Net recently signed memoranda of agreement with four universities in Indonesia and one professional institution in Malaysia to implement Dagang Net eScroll.

The Indonesian universities – Universitas 45 Mataram, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama, Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan Mataram and Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa – Malaysia’s KnowledgeCom will be issuing graduation certificates embedded with Dagang Net eScroll.

Zainal said DNeX is also looking to work with employers to incorporate effective authentication of academic and training certificates of prospective candidates. – Bernama
