Datasonic’s 3Q net profit soars 124.3%

KUALA LUMPUR: Datasonic Group Bhd’s net profit in the third quarter (3Q) ended Dec 31, 2019 soared 124.3% to RM20.18 mil from RM9 mil in the same quarter of the previous year.

Revenue grew 32.1% to RM74.97 mil from RM56.76 mil chalked up in the corresponding quarter, it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

The strong results were largely driven by higher supplies of national ID card consumables, passports and provision of personalisation services.

Chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Hashim Mohd Ali said the company earlier this year won an open tender for the supply, delivery, installation, testing, integration, commissioning and technical support of equipment, software and applications for 16 units of foreigner e-gates with facial recognition system at the Malaysia-Singapore entry/exit point.

“With an order book of RM611 mil, along with the ongoing supply of passport chips and MyKad orders, and the additional scope of work and projects for the supply and maintenance services for auto gates nationwide and at the Malaysia-Singapore border, our business outlook is good.

“Despite the economic challenges and uncertainties prevailing in the business environment with potential impact globally, the board is cautiously optimistic that the results for the financial year ending March 31, 2020 will be better than in the previous financial year,” he added.

The company has declared a third interim single-tier tax-exempt dividend of 1.0 sen per share for the financial year ending March 31, 2020, with the entitlement date to be determined and announced in due course. – Feb 27, 2020, Bernama
