“Daulat Tuanku,” netizens said amidst mixed feelings about new PM announcement

MALAYSIANS have taken to social media to express their thoughts about the recent announcement by Istana Negara proclaiming Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Malaysia’s new Prime Minister.

“Daulat Tuanku! We need to accept that His Majesty picked Ismail Sabri as he has enough support. Although there are people who are not pleased with such outcome, everyone has to respect the decision of the Conference of Rulers.

“Let’s make a political ceasefire till the next general election (GE15). Pray that PN2.0 can last till GE15. If it collapses, the rakyat are the losers,” said one user on Istana Negara’s official Facebook page.

Another user questioned the logic of hiring Ismail Sabri as the new Prime Minister, seeing as to how he failed to control the COVID-19 situation in the country.

“Despite being a Pakatan Harapan supporter, I feel that [Datuk Seri] Hishammuddin Hussein or Khairy Jamaluddin would be more apt for the role,” said the user.

Meanwhile, some netizens also voiced their disappointment.

“I respect my Agong’s decision which acted according to Perlembagaan. #DaulatTuanku However, I cannot hide my disappointment with the new PM & PN who cares for themselves rather than rakyat.”

Another user opined that despite the rakyat respecting the Agong’s collective decisions, he cannot help but feel disappointed by the new appointment.

“Malaysia will not improve any further under this PM and his alliance’s care. It’s a black day for Malaysia again. Ampun Tuanku,” he said. – Aug 20, 2021.
