DBKL officers get some love from netizens for demolishing illegal homes

LIFE isn’t easy being a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officer. They don’t get much love from Malaysians, especially those on the wrong side of the law. Bazaar traders without license and illegal migrants, you name it.

Recently, however, a viral video on X proved the opposite with the majority of netizens applauding the work of the officers.

In the video, they could be seen demolishing the home of a group of migrants, complete with chainsaws.

A sharp-eyed netizen claimed there was some construction happening in the middle of the road, just towards the rear of this shelter. He added that it was most likely from the workers there.

Several netizens further suggested more “intensive” treatments towards these migrants. According to @Orkid_Hutan_, they could have used a wrecking ball for the work.

“Swing twice and it should come crashing down. Thank you for the stern action,” he added.

“Just use a flamethrower. It saves time and energy,” said an overenthusiastic @2kosong25.

Sadly, the topic also took a turn into racism with netizen @gajuspedas suggesting the demolition of all the illegal temples.

He was likely referring to the recent case involving the 130-year-old Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple in Jalan Masjid India, which is facing potential relocation.

“If they managed to keep the illegal home for 130 years, they could claim it as their own. Maybe that was what they were thinking,” said @DrAFKam sarcastically.

Returning to the topic, @98Acapan raised an issue, saying that perhaps the law should be more stern towards the illegal migrants.

“Most of them are simply sent back to their country of origin, which is why the Indonesians are brave at taking risks. If they are caught, just send them back. If they go to jail, their food and drinks are being paid for, then they were just sent back,” he said.

Then there was @dahalan_m who said the officers could have met with the occupants first before demolishing their homes. “Hopefully things could be brought into discussion,” he said.

Prompted by the video, @afifahmiyata also suggested the officers check the area around Gombak, claiming the appearance of many illegal structures there.

Perhaps the fitting end to this distasteful event was best portrayed by @Chew_sensei who gave his respect to the DBKL officers.

According to him, they were always targeted for condemnation by the people, but they never gave up. —Mar 24, 2025
