Debate on M’sia’s prime ministerial choice raging online

WITH the failed Dubai Move and Perikatan Nasional (PN) virtually denying the existence of SDs (statutory declaration) signed by a majority of MPs, now the debate is centred on whether Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the people’s choice for PM.

Netizens are at war with each other on the X platform, where supporters of all political sides are arguing on the issue. Some are saying outright that Anwar was not chosen by the people to become PM since the Pakatan Harapan (PH) did not win a majority of seats to form the government alone.

PH had to join Barisan Nasional (BN) and parties in Sabah and Sarawak to form the new government after the 2022 general elections.

Nevertheless, PH supporters are poking fun at PN supporters, saying Anwar is a legitimate PM.

(Anwar is not the people’s choice. He did not win the general election with a majority. The attempts to bring down his government are due to his attitude. If he is not cruel to the opposition MPs (not giving allowances), no one will bring him down. His own behaviour is the main reason people want to bring him down.)

Hundreds of people are replying to the post that garnered more than 36,000 views.

(Anwar is not the people’s choice? So who is the new people’s choice? You have to remember, before Anwar, we already had two PMs who were not even the people’s choice.. so there is no need to highlight that as if it was the first time.)

(Even PN wasn’t the people’s choice. PN did not win the general election. The election of a unity government came about because of Muhyiddin’s rejecting the King’s proposal. If he chooses not to be in the opposition, no one will bring him down (in his party). His own behaviour is the reason (that PN is not in power) since they do not have the numbers.) – Jan 7, 2023
