Dejected student who got into a polytechnic instead of uni receives abundant support from netizens

A STUDENT who posted on the Meanwhile in Malaysia Facebook forum about feeling down for not getting a spot in a university has received plenty of support and encouragement from netizens.

The poster said they felt left behind as their peers were doing Foundation studies while they were stuck doing a Diploma programme in a polytechnic. No details as to the programme that the poster was placed in but many netizens were quick to point out it is no disadvantage.

Here are a few samples of the many encouraging comments:

Quite a few netizens pointed out that many employers favoured polytechnic graduates as they are deemed to have hands-on experience:

More than a few netizens counselled that what mattered most was the individual’s application of the knowledge gained:

What was really nice to see about the many comments to this post was that, for once, each and every single one of them were positive in nature. No snide remarks. No turning the narrative into a political or racially- charged topic.

For once, everyone was on point in saying that this was still an opportunity at higher education, with plenty of encouraging words for the young student.

It was indeed great to see so many who responded to the post said that there should be no difference in whether the higher education was at a polytechnic or a university.

Perhaps it is high time to drop the snobbery so that students such as the original poster do not feel at a disadvantage when offered a place at a polytechnic. – Jan 1, 2024
