Disabled e-hailing driver meets with IGP

A 46-year-old disabled e-hailing driver Ong Ing Keong who reported being assaulted by a member of a VIP’s security detail, is believed to be meeting with Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Despite reports that Ong had not been summoned by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday, he was seen entering Bukit Aman at approximately 10.45am, accompanied by Latheefa Koya and N. Surendran from Lawyers For Liberty (LFL).

Moreover, sources indicate that Ong’s meeting with Razarudin is part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Razarudin had previously stated that the police would be calling in both Ong and the officers involved as part of the investigation. A statement from the police is anticipated following Ong and his lawyers’ departure from Bukit Aman.

The incident was first reported on May 28 when Ong claimed he was assaulted by a VIP’s security escort while waiting for a customer at the St Regis Hotel. Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that Ong filed his initial report at 1pm.

Later that evening, at 9.59pm, Ong lodged a second report indicating that the matter had been resolved amicably and that he did not wish to prolong the case.

However, Ong later alleged that he was offered RM800 to settle the issue, prompting further investigation. – June 5, 2024
