Disgraceful for DAP minister to get MPKB to retract fine on non-Muslim lady for wearing shorts

SELANGOR state PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir has lambasted Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming (main pic) for breaking two principles of the Rukun Negara (National Principles) by requesting the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) to retract the compound imposed on a non-Muslim woman for inappropriate dressing.

The two principles are “The Supremacy of the Constitution” and “The Rule of Law” which means that Malaysians must obey and uphold every rule and law of the country, including the laws and regulations of the state and local authorities based on the authority prescribed by the Federal and state constitutions.

“It is understood that the woman’s adoptive father has voluntarily turned up at the MPKB office together with chairman of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kelantan to negotiate and finally agreed to pay a RM50 compound for the offence,” commented Roslan in an opinion piece in HarakahDaily.

“If the case is resolved, it means that the principles of Rukun Negara are obeyed by the people of Kelantan. Unfortunately, the PH-BN (pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional) minister Nga Kor Ming from DAP has condemned the act of paying the compound.”

According to Roslan, Nga claimed that he had in his ministerial capacity ordered the MPKB president to cancel the compound with DAP reported to even having assigned a lawyer to challenge the compound in court.

“Is such reaction and attitude of a minister who represents the country and its citizens acceptable?” asked Roslan.

“The national leadership should encourage the people to obey and respect the law in accordance with the principles of Rukun Negara. All types and forms of laws that are applicable in the country are prescribed with the authority by the parent law of the country or state, namely the Federal and state constitutions.”

As such, Roslan described the act of abusing one’s position to order the cancellation of a compound because of political interests as “an act of power abuse and the minister (Nga) must be held accountable”.

“This is very disgraceful on Kelantanese who obey and respect the law regardless of whether they are Malays, Chinese or Indians. It is also very shameful on fellow Malaysians. The minister has failed and his action is disgraceful.” – June 30, 2023
