THE Government should do away with the National Recovery Council (NRC) following the establishment of the “Pasukan Khas Jihad Tangani Inflasi” (Special Jihad Taskforce Against Inflation) recently, UMNO said.
“With the new committee in place, we can just disband the NRC as it functions will be redundant. Besides, the council has been ineffective and is merely an advisory body,” its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a Facebook post.
Yesterday (June 29), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the formation of the committee, with Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa leading the team.
Parked under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, the committee would formulate strategies to resolve inflation-related issues by gathering information from relevant ministries and agencies.
Touching on the matter, Zahid said that NRC is being used by its chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to promote both his party and his image, claiming the former prime minister rarely made any suggestions beneficial to the public.
“Let us just get rid of the failed council and allow ministers more time to work on what really matters rather than attending NRC’s meetings.
“And I suggest Muhyiddin to use other platforms to provide ideas to the prime minister. For example, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad uses the Perdana Leadership Foundation to advise the Government,” the Bagan Datuk MP remarked. – June 30, 2022
