DKing – durian runtuh with the King of Fruits making a comeback post-pandemic

MONEY may not grow on trees but when it comes to the King of Fruits there’s no denying its huge power to resuscitate the economy, especially since the nation is moving along from the pandemic to endemic stages of recovery.

It is on this note that the stage is set for the Malaysia International Durian & Cultural Fest 2022 (MIDCF) to take off in style as the indisputable Asian King of Fruits paves the way for a lavish buffet-style festival.

“The Road to Malaysia’s Durian & Cultural Fest 2022” is an event endorsed by the Malaysian Inbound Chinese Association (MICA) and supported by Tourism Malaysia with the cultural festival expected to highlight durians and tropical fruits as the main attractions.

The festival represents the efforts and contributions to spur Malaysia’s culture and tourism not just locally but internationally with the massive efforts invested by Dking, one of the biggest names in the durian industry.

It is a known fact that this is one of the most highly lucrative industries to ride the waves of the market. The demand for the King of Fruits has especially been robust over the last decade with China showing insatiable demand for durians.

The continued demand for the king of fruits not only locally but overseas as well makes sense for new emphasis to be given especially during the endemic period.

Hence, the timing of the festival’s announcement is seen as a much-needed shot-in-the-arm for global awareness of the delicious varieties available as well as its commercial viability.

Commending DKing’s efforts at the pre-launch event at the SS2 DKing site, Rosnah Mustafah, Senior Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia acknowledge that Malaysian food, including the King of Fruits, have always been among the top expenditure components for both domestic and international tourists.

“Over the years, durians have made its way to the top of the list of what Malaysia is known for. Today, there are nothing less than 200 durian varieties on offer,” she said, giving her assurance that it is in Tourism Malaysia’s best interest to proudly showcase the King of Fruits to the world.

She added that the selections of durians and cultural food that will be promoted at the festival will allow for people to savour Malaysian culture at its best.

The upcoming festival, aligned with the “Malaysia Truly Asia” campaign, will capture and define the essence of the country’s unique diversity, further catapulting Malaysia as a preferred and exceptional favourite tourist destination.

Leron Yee, Founder of Dking conceded that he had no choice but to halt extravagant events promoting durians during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, with the opening of the borders in most countries and the relaxation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) given the endemic stage, he expressed optimism that this is the favourable time to promote the King of Fruits with a vengeance.

Dking, he added, is back to represent one of Malaysia’s most popular items that have contributed to the nation’s food basket. Indeed, it represents one of the top expenditure components for both domestic and international tourists in Malaysia.

“Through the selection of durians and cultural food that we have available at the festival, this will enable people to experience the diversity and culture that Malaysia has,” he remarked.

“We also hope to play a vital role in promoting Malaysia as an ideal destination to experience unique food, culture and other tourist attractions.” – July 21, 2022
