IT IS high time for Felda settlers in the Pelangai constituency to drop any lingering feelings of nostalgia they have for UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN), said a Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader.
PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said after all, it was during PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration that the government initiated a plan to waive the Felda settlers’ outstanding debts.
“We all know that it was Muhyiddin who came up with the theory on how to solve the debt problems of Felda settlers,” Ahmad was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini during a ceramah in Simpang Pelangai, Bentong last night (Oct 2).
“I am aware that the older generations feel more indebted to BN and want to repay the favour through votes, but I urged them to consider whether BN still deserves it.”
According to the Pasir Mas MP, BN and UMNO had lost their way because they were now allied with DAP.
“I apologise. I don’t want to attack or insult UMNO, but BN under Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has lost their way and their identity. They are forced to share power with their enemies,” said Ahmad.
The Pelangai state by-election is a three-way contest between BN’s Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, PN’s candidate Kasim Samat, and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni.
The poll was called following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor on August 17.
Meanwhile, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the so-called “green wave” of Malay-Muslim support for PN had slowed down since the six state elections held in August.
The PH deputy chairman popularly known as Mat Sabu also urged Pelangai voters to reject any political fatwas issued by PN leaders, saying they have no authority to do so.
“PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said there will be a change of federal government after the state elections. Where is it? It didn’t change. The ‘green wave’ returned to them, maybe,” he was quoted as saying by Malay Mail in his speech at the Ceramah Mega Perpaduan Madani Pelangai, Bentong last night (Sept 2).
“When they do it, it’s fine. When they are against Howard Lee reading the Quran translation, maybe they forgot I was the PAS deputy president once. When we were friends with PH, N. Gopala Krishnan always recites a verse during ceramah. Everyone including Hadi Awang was in awe. They can’t be trusted.
“Such is PAS’ behaviour,” the Kota Raja MP added. – Oct 3, 2023
