“Don’t demonise Hinduism just because of New Age spiritualist Aliff Daniel’s shirk kavadi carrying act”

THE viral Thaipusam ritual in Batu Caves by 21-year-olf Muslim youth Aliff Daniel is a voluntary act with no involvement nor influence by Malaysian Indians of the Hindu faith.

Such is seemingly the contention of a few Hindu netizens who came forward to appeal to the rightist fraternity not to associate the sacred devotion of the brother to actress, singer and social media personality Nur Ranea Ezreen Luqman to their anti-kuil haram (illegal temple) agenda.

This came in the wake of yesterday’s (Oct 13) arrest of Aliff and his mother by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

According to the JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, the detention was carried out by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) through a mutual arrest warrant issued by the Shah Alam Syariah Court.

Both mother and son are now being investigated under Section 4 and Section 10 of the Shariah Criminal Code (Selangor) 1995 following the recent controversy of their alleged involvement in non-Islamic religious rituals.

“Malaysian Indians have faced enough criticism of being existed in this country by shaming our race, religion, language and more,” penned undergraduate and micro-influencer Mithran Ganesh (@sivan_mithran) on Threads.

“And now this one Malay Muslim guy performed Hindu rituals at the Murugan Temple in Batu Caves. Please lah, know the difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.”

More attention-grabbing over the arrest of Aliff and his mother is that JAIS also revealed that at least 14 other individuals are expected to be called in to assist the investigation based on the intelligence conducted.

‘He embraces multiple faiths’

However, yesterday’s (Oct 13) arrest does not mean that both individuals have been proven guilty as per the seeming “trial by social media”. Investigation is still on-going with the authorities yet to announce a final decision.

Another presumable Hindu netizen is of the view that while Aliff’s action “is wrong by Islamic manners, that has got nothing to do with Hinduism”.

“So apparently that Daniel guy is making vows in Batu Caves and has gone to India for prayers,” @shaaaa2346 hit out at certain quarters who alleged “hidden hands” behind Aliff’s shirk action.

His actions is his alone and nobody should drag Hinduism into the mud just because he (Aliff) didn’t adhere to Islamic way of living.

Everything in Hinduism has its meaning, including the multiple hands of God. You can chide that guy but insulting Hinduism is a new low. Even we don’t want id*ots like him.

Interestingly, renowned influencer Amin Idris – citing Facebooker Masyitah Asyari who first exposed Aliff’s shirk act – shared that Aliff studied various s0-called New Age spiritual beliefs.

“But his level is not the Islamic New Age version. His version is truly a trans-religious spiritual teaching,” explained the television host, writer and freelance speaker in a Threads post.

Not content with Buddhist, Hindu and Christian idols, Aliff Daniel Adli also performed rituals worshipping the Javanese goddess Nyi Roro Kidul – the South Coast goddess – in Cepuri, Parangkusumo, Yogyakarta (Indonesia).

He worships almost every idol which is a sign of New Age spiritual heresy. He was even involved in Tarot card divination. He’s well-known for his New Age fortune-telling practices. What Aliff Daniel has done is merely a common New Age practice.”

To sum up, one Threader described Aliff’s blatant act as “very heartbreaking to us as Muslims who love the purity of this religion.

“It brings tears to my eyes to see this happening in the Muslim community in Malaysia,” lamented one FrodoLastWars (@frodolastwar).

“More sadly, Aliff Daniel’s shirk acts have been strongly supported by his mother and younger sister. All are Malays with Islam stated as their religion on their ICs (identity card).”. – Oct 14, 2026.
