Don’t know what to get on Valentine’s Day? This might give you an idea

EVEN though most Malaysians are still in the mood for Chinese New Year festivities, Valentine’s Day is just two days away and it’s never to early to plan or prepare for that special day with loved ones.

With that in mind, international e-commerce platform Picodi took the liberty to conduct an online survey to discover what could be in store for this year’s Valentine’s Day.

From the survey, it was found that 68% of the Malaysians that took part in the survey said they do celebrate the day, with 75% saying that they usually would gift something to their partners.

For the men, the most popular ‘gifts’ that they would get their partners were food on delivery (24%), dinner at a restaurant (21%) and flowers (20%), almost similar to the women who also said food on delivery (21%), dinner at a restaurant (20%) and perfumes (15%).

But in terms of what they expect to be gifted, 61% of the women expects that their partners will bring them out to dinner at a restaurant, while 41% thinks they would get delivery food and 33% flowers, 28% spending money and 25% jewellery.

For the men, the most expected option was a restaurant dinner (72%), food on delivery (45%), flowers and jewellery (22%) and 20% on money.

But be careful! Some of the worst Valentine’s Day gifts according to the women are sex toys (24%), alcohol (20%), dinners at a restaurant or teddy bears (19%) and 16% on delivery food.

Among men, food on delivery and dinners at a restaurant (23% and 18% respectively) were the least wanted.

The survey also showed that Malaysians spend an average of RM195 on Valentine’s Day gifts, with men having a tendency to spend 8% more compared to women (RM202 vs. RM188). – Feb 12, 2021
