Don’t repeat your blunders, address SPM/SPMV 2021 challenges now!

THE Education Ministry (MOE) must step up and prepare Form 5 students accordingly so that they will be well equipped to sit for the SPM and SPMV examinations later.

“The ministry’s failure to manage SPM/SPMV 2020 has caused tremendous amount of mental and physical stress to our students, teachers and parents. This has been reported extensively by the media.

“Unfortunately, our minister and his two deputies chose to ignore their agony, which was not surprising actually.

“But we cannot allow such failure to repeat itself this year. If it happens again, it only shows that the Government has failed our future generation,” the Pakatan Harapan Education Committee said, in a statement.

On that note, the committee urged MOE to revisit the Kohort SPM 2021 syllabus, which is based on the Secondary School Standard Curiculum (KSSM) introduced in 2017.

With the syllabus introduced just last year, it added, it could be a bane to Form 5 who had their schooling sessions interrupted due to COVID-19.

“SPM/SPMV students of this year will find it more challenging than their senior to cope if MOE fails to address the situation,” it stressed.

While Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin could claim that he was ill-prepared last year due to unprecedented challenges, the committee said the former cannot use the same excuse again to defend himself.

“Therefore, we urge Radzi and his deputies to make early announcement of their preparations for SPM/SPMV 2021 for everyone’s sake, especially our students.

“Going by logic, if we are still using the old schedule, students have only about five months to prepare themselves, which is definitely a cause for concern,” it remarked. – June 6, 2021.
