UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has expressed confidence that MCA will remain a loyal ally in Barisan Nasional (BN), saying siblings will have arguments.
He pointed out that if there is unhappiness and dissatisfaction among component parties in a coalition, these are common after decades of working together.
“We – MCA, MIC, and UMNO – are like siblings. Siblings will have arguments but it must be resolved in a good manner,” he said, adding that there is a harmonious relationship in BN youth among the parties in the coalition.
“There are no rumours saying (anyone) will leave BN. Even with MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, I have quite a good relationship with him.
“I believe MCA will remain loyal as our ally,” he told reporters after officiating the Subang UMNO delegates meeting at the Selangor UMNO building in Shah Alam.
Meanwhile, UMNO supreme council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi is also confident that MCA will not desert the BN coalition, despite the latest reports indicating just that.
“I am confident MCA would not leave BN. What more, MCA is led by Wee. He is a die-hard BN man.
“Stories of MCA quitting BN are just manipulations by certain parties,” he penned in a Facebook post.
Yesterday (July 19), a local news portal said that MCA would leave the 72-year-old coalition because of two key issues.
One was UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement that BN would cooperate with PH in the next general election.
Second, grassroots MCA members are unhappy over seat allocations.
Another coalition member, MIC is expected to follow suit too according to rumours.
“MCA ought to feel sidelined as it has no role in the federal government. That was the reality faced by UMNO under the PN administration. There was no respect for UMNO,” wrote Dr Puad. – July 20, 2024
