Dr Yii: “Malaysian youths will vote against corruption and reject kleptocracy”

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) Youth chief Dr Kelvin Yii has expressed his confidence that Malaysian youths will vote for the good of the country and this includes rejecting political parties whose leaders are proven to be involved in grand corruption and abuse of power.

This is on top of forcing an election during monsoon season simply to save thieves involved in grand kleptocracy, the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) national chief added.

“In response to UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil’s statement that the youth will support Barisan Nasional (BN) because they do not like liars or party-hoppers, I would like to remind him and UMNO/BN to look into the mirror,” Dr Yii said today (Oct 18).

“This is because it is they themselves are the cause for many of the systemic and institutional problems in our country on top of them empowering and endorsing frogs into position of power during the Sheraton Move.”

In an interview with FMT yesterday, Isham said that he is confident that young voters will reject PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) at the coming general election.

He also pointed out that youth had a poor view of PH for not delivering on promises in their 2018 manifesto and were unlikely to vote for PN as the coalition is made up of “party hoppers”.

“UMNO/BN have constantly harped on unfulfilled promises in 22 months when they themselves have broken and failed in so many of their promises over the past 60 years,” Dr Yii pointed out.

“This is when in 22 months PH had put in place many important institutional reforms and good governance policies which was recognised internationally including a massive improvement in our Corruption Perception Index, Freedom of Media Index and Democratic Index.”

Dr Yii further said that PH’s successes would have “set the foundation for a stronger and cleaner Malaysia” which he noted was important to attract investments and induce investor confidence in the country’s governance.

“Imagine how much more could have been done to correct the mismanagement caused by BN and set our country in the right direction if we were given a full five years,” he said.

“At the end of the day, youths are looking for good policies to give them economic and environmental security, equitable education, and more importantly policies to prepare them for jobs of the future.

“And all those and the fundamentals of good governance is the core of what Pakatan Harapan is fighting for.” – Oct 18, 2022
