TANGGA Batu MP Rusnah Aluai apologised over her remarks recently equating those drinking the Timah whiskey as “drinking a Malay woman” recently.
“I have scrutinised the comments made against me in regards to my speech at the Dewan Rakyat recently.
“Although I meant to allay confusion in regards to the whiskey label, my speech was misconstrued. To those who were offended over it, I would like to apologise to them,” she said.
On Thursday, Rusnah triggered public outcry over her comments made in the Dewan Rakyat, in regards to the Timah whiskey brand.
The PKR MP likened drinking the locally-made alcoholic beverage to “drinking a Malay woman”.
“The name ‘Timah’ was a disservice to women as the names of Malay women like ‘Kak Timah’ or ‘Mak Timah’, drinking the whiskey gave the impression that “we were drinking a Malay woman”,” she was reported saying.
Her bizarre remarks received ridicule and criticism on social media, with even fellow Pakatan Harapan and its allies chipping in.
“So, can I eat Daim chocolate? Can I drink Dutch Lady Milk? Or I am ‘eating’ Tun Daim or ‘drinking’ Dutch woman?” queried Muar MP Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman. – Oct 30, 2021.
