A state assemblyman believes that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition is always training its guns on Penang because of the state administration’s accomplishments.
According to Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit, the Kedah PN administration, helmed by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, is envious of Penang’s success and has resorted to allegedly fabricating facts to divert attention away from its own problems.
“This is why the Kedah leadership led by PN wants to constantly question Penang’s place in the federation. Our status as a state is already enshrined in the Federal Constitution and that is enough,” Lee alleged in a statement.
“If the Penang administration had been a failure, probably the PN Kedah wouldn’t care less about us.”
Sanusi had previously questioned Penang’s sovereignty, asserting that the “state is leased from Kedah.” Similar claims were made by the PAS politician in the Kedah state legislative assembly in 2021.
The Vibes reported at the time that Sanusi told the Kedah state assembly that he understood Penang’s worries over the many significant projects launched by Kedah that are thought to offer Penang competition.
However, he emphasised that “Penang was leased, and it should not interfere or criticise Kedah’s administrative matters.”
Lee went on to condemn PN’s “toxic politics play”, arguing that it should instead conduct themselves as a credible opposition, challenging the ruling administration through policy-based debates, as in other democratic countries.
The DAP politician urged Penang voters to defend their state from the “toxic politics” of the PN by returning home to cast their vote in the forthcoming state elections.
“Your votes matter in the next state elections; do not let PN take away all we have worked for. Five years can cause a lot of damage to Penang, especially under the control of a coalition like PN, which will spread its brand of toxic politics to Penang.
