Ex-Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim dies

FORMER Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim passed away due to a heart valve infection last night. He was 76.

The former PKR leader breathed his last at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 11.08pm, according to a post on his official Facebook page.

He was surrounded by family members and died a peaceful death, the admin added.

Khalid had been in hospital since April 23 due to the infection.

Funeral rights will take place at the Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara today, after which his remains will be brought to the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque to allow people to pay their last respects.

He will then be laid to rest at the Shah Alam Royal Mausoleum in Section 5, as per a royal decree by Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Khalid leaves behind his wife, four children and two grandchildren.

Khalid joined PKR in 2006, and has served as Ijok assemblyman and Bandar Tun Razak MP.

He become the Selangor menteri besar after Pakatan Rakyat wrested control of Selangor in the 2008 general elections.

However, his time in office came to an end in 2014 after PKR sacked him during the so-called Kajang Move.

Khalid was a noted corporate figure prior to joining politics and has served as the chief executive of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB). – Aug 1, 2022
