Experts foresee fourth wave by Dec following Melaka elections

THE Government is prepared to face a fourth wave of COVID-19 following the recent Melaka state election last Saturday (Nov 20).

On Tuesday (Nov 23), Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang mentioned this during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.

“We are monitoring the situation. The government is aware and is ready to face the possibility of the fourth wave happening in the country,” Ago answered when being questioned about what will be the Government’s plan on this issue.

Ago was responding to a supplementary question from Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen on preparations by the government to face the eventuality of an increase in COVID-19 cases in Melaka following last Saturday’s state election as the impact could only be detected after 10 to 14 days.

“We have learnt from the Sabah election. Owing to that matter, a very strict set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) was set for the Melaka state election by not allowing large-scale campaigns to be held,” he added.

As mentioned by our Health Minister DG Hisham in a Global Townhall Forum, Malaysia is nowhere near ready to be transitioning to an endemic phase.

The country has also observed a sudden climb of COVID-19 cases mostly in the Klang Valley and Selangor areas. — Nov 24, 2021
