“Extend your apology to Muslims in Malaysia,” Perlis mufti tells DAP

PERLIS mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has suggested that DAP extend their apology to the country’s Muslim community following the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component’s recent apology to the Sarawak government and its people.

The controversial Muslim preacher said that this would hopefully ease the feelings of the Muslims in the country and ensure a good start by considering the sensitivities of Muslims and Malays.

“If DAP refuses [to apologise], they will be perceived as having the same DAP identity as before that had made the Muslims uneasy and had led to them rejecting DAP in the first place,” he said in a Facebook post.

On Thursday (Nov 25) DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook had paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg apologise on DAP’s behalf for any statements that have offended the government and the people of Sarawak.

Loke expressed hopes that the meeting will pave way for a meaningful cooperation between both parties and will open a new chapter to build understanding and cooperation for the sake of a more developed and progressive nation.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng had extended a similar apology a day later and had pleaded for a fresh start in relations with the state, saying that cooperation in preserving the nation’s diversity and inclusiveness was needed. – Nov 25, 2022
