Face facts! The Gov’t failed to contain COVID-19, economy shaky

AFTER months of movement restrictions and Emergency proclamation, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that the measures failed to contain COVID-19 and damaged the economy.

“Emergency was proclaimed and our Parliament was prorogued. All legislation which controlled Government spending were suspended.

“And yet, we failed to contain COVID-19 and our mass vaccination programme is very slow,” he said, in a Facebook post.

In the last few days, daily infection rates have soared above the 2,000 mark, prompting Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba recommending the Government to disallow inter-state travels for the upcoming Hari Raya festival.

Public outcry against the Government’s failure to contain the pandemic and save livelihoods have reached to a boiling point, as #KerajaanGagal went viral on Twitter.

While the public were slapped with heavy fines for breaching COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP), the authorities drag their feet in taking action against VVIP SOP breachers, irking the public.

On that note, Najib said that during the Emergency, the Government had sold off profit making Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd for a low price.

He added that the Government also sold off Celcom’s shares, which is a Government-linked company.

“And now our Prime Minister says that the Government is having shortage of cash, calling for civil servants to take a pay cut to help the economy.

“By the way, does anyone know that the Government has borrowed RM69 bil in the last four months alone?” the Pekan MP asked. – April 18, 2021.
