PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has come under fire from grassroot party members and detractors alike after revealing that the Federal Territories PKR has expressed its unwavering support “to lift Nurul Izzah Anwar” as the party’s deputy president for the 2025-2028 term.

Disgusted by the Communications Minster’s stance, Madani government backer 𝖠𝖿𝗋𝖺𝗅’𝗌 (@AfralAbdullah) has made up his mind to abandon PKR as a mark of protest.
“I’m a member of the Shah Alam branch. If @n_izzah becomes deputy president to her father @anwaribrahim, then I will leave the party & consider joining @PartiAmanah or @dapmalaysia,” rebutted the social media influencer.
“You want to be with the vice-president candidate (Nurul Izzah’s current position), that’s your right. I’m leaving the party, that’s my right.”
Added 𝖠𝖿𝗋𝖺𝗅’𝗌: “Let there be consequences or no consequences but I’m getting tired of dealing with attacks from the opposition. It’s not just Anwar who doesn’t take a salary; I haven’t taken a single penny for supporting PKR since the reformasi movement. This is crazy.”
For the record, PKR is holding its first internal polls since party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became the prime minister in November 2022.
Following conclusion of divisional polls on April 20, all eyes are now on the battle for the party’s national elections on May 23.
𝖠𝖿𝗋𝖺𝗅’𝗌 disgruntlement was echoed by one commenter who hit the nail on the head – to prevent current deputy president and Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from succeeding Nirul Izzah’s father and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the PKR’s president.
In fact, another opined that it would be unwise for Nurul Izzah to be agreeable to such nomination.
“That the father is the president and child/wife being deputy president is logically not wrong in a country with matured politics but Malaysian politics is influenced by emotions and perceptions as opposed to full qualification,” justified the netizen.
Moreover, one commenter contended that the oft-heard reasoning of Nurul Izzah having been a Puteri Reformasi for a long time should not be deemed as a licence to uplift her as PKR’s deputy president.
“Other factors need to be considered, ie RR (Rafizi) is a STRATEGIST for the party and should be given the best place in the party to tackle highly complex challenges.”
One commenter summed up best the state of nepotism in PKR when he remarked that “succession planning in PKR has become like North Korea”. – May 8, 2025
