THE unity government is moving swiftly to fill the vacant position of the director-general in the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) left by Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff, as confirmed by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
The announcement came after Agus tendered his resignation on Wednesday (Nov 15), citing a new job offer as the reason for stepping down from the role he had assumed on Feb 2 of the current year.
Despite his departure, Fahmi expressed gratitude for Agus’ service and clarified that the former director-general no longer maintains any official ties with the government or J-Kom.
“We extend our thanks, and that individual now does not have any links with the government or J-Kom.
“I have yet to speak to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding this matter. I believe steps to fill the post will be taken as soon as possible,” he told the Malaysian media in San Francisco yesterday (Nov 16) when asked to comment on Agus’ resignation.
The responsibility to inform the government about Agus’ resignation fell upon J-Kom’s deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop. Fahmi assured the public that the process of finding a suitable candidate to assume the role would be expedited.
Moreover, in confirming his resignation, Agus emphasised that the decision was not influenced by any external pressures. He affirmed that he had received a new job opportunity, leading to his departure from the director-general position. – Nov 17, 2023
