THE police and CyberSecurity Malaysia will probe the purported MySejahtera data leak that involved a “super admin” account, according to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
The leak was discovered a week after the Auditor-Report General’s 2021 Series 2 revealed that the account downloaded three million information sets from different IP (internet protocol) addresses.
Following the release of the Auditor-General’s Report, Fahmi stated that he has directed CyberSecurity Malaysia to conduct an investigation while the police will initiate its own probe.
“This is the data leakage which allegedly involved the super admin access to the MySejahtera app. This is very important and I know many are worried about this data leak,” English daily Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying in a press conference at Parliament.
There were a number of issues with the records kept in MySejahtera that were brought up in the Auditor-Report General’s 2021 Series 2. As of Oct 27, 2021, 1.12 million attacks were reported against the application, albeit it was unclear whether they were successful or not.
Elsewhere, Fahmi confirmed that the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) chairman will be chosen by the end of next week.
The Malaysian Film Producers Association (PFM) has requested that Fahmi nominate a new FINAS chairman and board members as soon as possible.
Former FINAS chairman Zurainah Musa acknowledged that the Communications and Digital Ministry had reduced her term in December 2022.
Meanwhile, Fahmi told the Dewan Rakyat that money should be set aside to strengthen cybersecurity in the country in order to combat data leaks.
He is anticipating Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to declare a sizable expenditure for cybersecurity when the latter presents the revised Budget 2023 tomorrow (Feb 24). — Feb 23, 2023
