THIS is probably a fake piece of news that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has mooted a donation drive directed at all deputy public prosecutors (DPPs) and AGC staff to buy a “meaningful farewell gift” for Attorney-General Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh who “is slated for elevation to a Federal Court judge”.
As per a viral WhatsApp text sighted by FocusM, a memo has made its rounds among staffers of the AGC nationwide that the amount of contribution “is determined by seniority/ranking” of each of the AGC staff.

“Datin Kalmizah Salleh (Selangor State Prosecution Director) has been tasked to manage the collection from state level prosecution offices,” read the WhatsApp text. “The deadline for submitting donations is Tuesday, Nov 5, 2024 (tomorrow). 🤷♂️🤦♂️”
Obviously, the request for donation sparked furore from netizens who are oblivious to the fact that the viral WhatsApp text that they received may after all be “fake news”.
For context, it was reported in August that following Ahmad Terrirudin’s deemed promotion (he was appointed AG on Sept 6, 2023), several senior officers from the judicial and legal services have emerge front-runners to replace him.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Sources said officers within the AGC who could be picked to fill the vacancy included Solicitor-General (II) Datuk Umar Saifuddin Jaafar; head of the trial and appellate division Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and prosecution division chief Datuk Masri Mohd Daud.
“Another possible candidate is Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) legal and prosecution division director,” added the news portal. – Nov 4, 2024
