ESTATE planning group, Rockwills International Bhd, has branded as fake a viral news report bearing the masthead of The Edge-owned publication, CEO Morning Brief, bearing the heading “Rockwills Group Under Investigation for Data and Confidentiality Breach”.
“It has come to Rockwills Group’s attention that an article has appeared online accusing the group of compromising the personal data of its customers,” it said in a statement. “The article is FAKE. This has been confirmed with and acknowledged by the media publication itself.”
Rockwills further reiterated that the act of impersonating a credible financial media platform to create fake news aimed at tarnishing its brand and corporate image is a criminal matter.
“Rockwills has lodged a police report and reported to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” the company pointed out. “We hope that the authorities will take this seriously, conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
In light of the above, Rockwills urged the Malaysian reading public not to assist the fake news creators by disseminating and forwarding the said fake article indiscriminately but to verify directly with the Rockwills Group.
“Rockwills would like to reiterate that it subscribes fully to the Personal Data Protection Act. The group has invested heavily in protecting sensitive personal information of its customers. This remains and continues to be a top priority,” added the will-writing provider. – June 16, 2022
