ON April 10, three police reports were lodged concerning enforcement operations targeting illegal durian orchards in Sungai Ruan, Raub.
According to Raub District police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman, the reports involved claims of obstructing public servants, as alleged by the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP).
“The complaints, including one from UPNP, arose when a group of unauthorised durian farmers impeded enforcement efforts,” he stated today (April 12).
The incidents are under investigation pursuant to Section 186 of the Penal Code.
In Sungai Klau, Raub, tensions erupted last week as durian farmers, led by the Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) and Raub MP Chow Yu Hui, confronted the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) on April 10.
The UPNP, backed by the Forestry Department, Land Office, and police, entered a disputed plantation to fell Musang King durian trees deemed illegal.
Around 50 farmers blocked roads, wielding banners to protest the destruction of crops they claimed were planted 30 years ago. One farmer pleaded, “It’s okay if we die, but don’t cut them down.”
Samka argued the state violated a court order, but Pahang’s legal adviser Datuk Seri Saiful Edris Zainuddin refuted this, stating the Kuantan High Court dismissed the farmers’ judicial review in April 2024, and the Court of Appeal rejected their stay on eviction. — April 12, 2025
