Fast tracking the vaccination programme via contributions

ALTHOUGH there is still a whole year before the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) reaches its targeted deadline of achieving 80% herd immunity, there is still room for the Government to hasten the process with the help of various industry players.

Following the Government’s decision to allow private healthcare practitioners to administer COVID-19 vaccines, Sunway Group also pitched in by dedicating its Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as the first private large-scale vaccination centre for the Petaling district.

The centre will provide vaccination to healthcare workers in government and private facilities from February to April 2021, while the other healthcare workers, essential workers, enforces, senior citizens and high-risk groups will be slotted for April to August 2021. The community at large will get their chance from August 2021 to February 2022.

As of March 12, some 1,400 frontline workers have been vaccinated. The vaccination is carried out by Petaling Health District Office with strict adherence to the SOPs, in small groups, with adequate social distancing.

Free parking is provided for those coming to get vaccinated over the next 11 months.

Despite that, the Malaysia Health Coalition (MHC) and Selangor state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran are still hoping that the Government will soon allow private hospitals to procure and administer vaccines as well. – March 13, 2021
