If not “fun ride”, was it “boring ride”, Najib mocks Zuraida for SOP breach

WITH VIPs seemingly flouting COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) without any actions being taken against them, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak joined the chorus to call out on the double standards.

This time, Najib set his eyes on Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, who officiated a cycling event on Saturday.

“For this one, the Government said the minister did not breach SOP, although it is clearly stated that mass activities which involves group participation or movements such as fun run, fun ride, marathon, triathlon and others are disallowed, as physical distancing would be difficult to maintain in such events.

“And what was the excuse given? The activity was not a ‘fun ride. If not ‘fun ride’, what else? A ‘boring ride’ event?” asked the Pekan MP in a Facebook post.

Recently, Zuraida came under fire from several quarters after she was pictured flagging off a cycling event held at Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, which is prohibited under the COVID-19 SOP.

However, online news portal Free Malaysia Today reported the National Landscape Department defending the Ampang MP, saying it was not a “fun ride” and attendees adhered to the SOP.

“The activity was not a ‘fun ride’ as it was neither opened to the public nor was it a competition involving spectators.

“All 30 cyclists who took part were employees from the department and SWCorp. They also picked up rubbish while jogging,” the department was reported saying,” adding all rules, including temperature checks, physical distancing and the use of hand sanitisers were adhered to. – March 15, 2021.
