No deals with Bersatu’s Hamzah, warn Amanah, DAP

ANY Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus coalition that excludes Sabah’s Warisan and Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s faction will not be possible, said Amanah and DAP in a statement today.

Amanah and DAP said PH Plus needs to have the five original parties that won the 2018 general election – Amanah, DAP, PKR, Warisan and Mahathir’s Bersatu faction.

Both parties also said no deal with should be made or attempted with Hamzah Zainuddin, “the chief conspirator of the Sheraton coup” that led to the fall of the PH government in late February.

“Any formula that includes Hamzah but excludes Warisan and Dr Mahathir’s faction is not acceptable and not based on principles,” they said.

The fight to become PH’s candidate for prime minister has driven a wedge between Mahathir and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar told Malaysiakini that he reported his meetings with some Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders, especially with Hamzah and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

It came about after Mahathir met Amanah, DAP and Warisan on June 25 where Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal could be PH’s prime ministerial candidate.

Mahathir had said the proposal garnered unanimous support during the meeting.

However, Amanah and DAP later said they need to consult their parties’ leadership and discuss with the PH presidential council.

Amanah and DAP now said the real “enemy” is the “kleptocratic Perikatan Nasional alliance”, not Warisan and Mahathir. – June 29, 2020
