#RakyatGagal: How the public also violate COVID-19 SOP, like politicians

WITH the Government announcing a full lockdown starting June 1, the public welcomed the decision due to the soaring COVID-19 cases, which is breaching the 8,000 mark now.

However, social media users who initially criticised the Government for not imposing the total lockdown using #KerajaanGagal and #KerajaanBodoh on Twitter, now turned their attention on irresponsible people for violating standard operating procedure (SOP) following the announcement.

Taking to Twitter and trending #RakyatGagal, several users bemoaned the public for going on panic buying and thronging to leave the cities in a haste, possibly risking more getting infected with the deadly virus.

“How la to win against COVID-19 in Malaysia if the rakyat is so stubborn as hell? Rakyat don’t listen to instructions, don’t comply to the SOP’s, but when it comes to complaining always champion!

“First place, any Government yg ruling pon akan gagal dapat rakyat macam ni la deyy!! #RakyatGagal,” said user LoveSJH, who published photos of shoppers thronging malls and motorists leaving major cities.

Another user called Pelabur Bijak, after looking at the traffic on highways stated: “Nak lari mana tu? Bawa covid jumpa mak ayah?” (Where are you running away? Taking COVID-19 to see your mom and dad?)

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) decided to impose a total lockdown nationwide, beginning June 1 to 14.

The Government announced that the full lockdown will be implemented in three phases, where the first phase will be focused on bringing down COVID-19 tally.

Once the first phase is done, the second phase will look into reopening several economic sectors which does not involve large gatherings.

The third phase will involve relaxing some restrictions, like the one currently in place.

Touching on #RakyatGagal, user MSMR commented that there was no point the public venting out their frustration on the Government and politicians, when they themselves flout the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“Got total lockdown, complain. No total lockdown, complain. SOP tak masuk akal, complain. Proper SOP, complain,” he bemused.

User Itsifikaa remarked: “This is not #KerajaanGagal anymore. This is also #RakyatGagal. The rising cases are mostly from Cluster Aidilfitri. Don’t you get it? This is a total human failure. You blamed the Government but why did the Aidilfitri cluster getting increase day by day?”

As of press time, more than 3,000 people have commented on #RakyatGagal and counting. – May 29, 2021
