FGV unit wins telco contract from MCMC

PLANTATION giant FGV Holdings Bhd’s subsidiary, FGV Prodata Systems Sdn Bhd, has won a contract from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to supply, deliver and install telecommunication towers and its ancillaries for the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) 1 cellular project.

The project is part of the MCMC’s efforts to plan and implement universal service provision in Malaysia. The facilities and services are to be deployed at underserved areas, covering 93 districts in eight states, with a total of 152 sites and a target to provide digital connectivity to some 40,000 people.

“FGV Prodata is a homegrown information & communication technology (ICT) service provider specialising in bringing together end-to-end components of ICT into an efficient and cohesive system,” said FGV CEO Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan in a statement on March 16.

He added that the contract win was in line with FGV group’s transformation journey in expanding into new growth areas to create more value.

FGV Prodata was selected by MCMC as one of the four Designated Universal Service Providers (DUSPs) and had been assigned to a total of 39 sites – 26 in Sabah and 13 in Terengganu.

The implementation period was for six months beginning Feb 15 this year.

Previously, FGV Prodata was awarded the Network Facilities Provider (NFP) and Network Services Provider (NSP) licences from MCMC in 2013.

FGV shares closed at 86.5 sen, down three sen from the day’s opening with 14.2 million shares changing hands. – March 16, 2020
