MUSLIM convert preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung has hit out at Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil after the latter’s official TikTok account ‘reposted’ a shared post by Negri Sembilan PKR information secretary Edy Noor Reduan with the intention of creating a bad perception of him in the Allah inscription on socks controversy.
The Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) president further wondered if the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) has a role in this given “the minister’s official TikTok page can ‘repost’ from a source whose validity is doubtful”.
The post in question depicted Firdaus posing in front of his MyKampung Freshmart outlet which has ceased operations two years ago.
In all frankness, numerous posts bearing similar image of Firdaus had gone viral, sparking immense furore among netizens who pointed the finger at Firdaus as the culprit/conspirator by virtue of him being the person who first discovered the damning socks on March 13 at a Bandar Sunway KK Super Mart outlet.
“If it is true that J-Kom is involved, then this is the biggest failure because as an agency that has such huge funds, how can they fail to do a thorough investigation to ensure that all their perceptions and slanders can hold water?” lambasted the owner of Malay language news portal The Merdeka Times in a recent Facebook post.
“Why must it (J-Kom) attack me when I’m not a member of any political party let alone hold a political position that can be a threat to them? What has the issue of socks bearing the Allah inscription in KK Mart has to do with the ‘cytro’ (paid cybertroopers) and J-Kom till it creates so much slander and misperception?
The 41-year-old Jinjang-born Firdaus who converted to Islam on Aug 10, 2005 further lamented that if indeed the involvement of J-Kom is true, “why then are government funds being used to attack me, a street preacher?”
“If they claimed that I’m anti-government, how many government initiatives have I supported and helped (to promote in the past) without payment unlike the’ cytro’ who may get a good financial reward (in this life) but bankrupt in the afterlife?
“Whether J-Kom is involved or not, the minister (Fahmi) is answerable even if it is possible to guess what the answer will be. The major question here is how can a minister’s official Tiktok account ‘repost’ a screenshot from a cytro account, hence very likely a fake account?” – March 30, 2024
