RENOWNED convert Muslim preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung – the person who first revealed existence of socks with Allah inscription on them at a Bundar Sunway KK Super Mart outlet on March 13 – is pursuing a legal action against former Tanah Rata state assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong for insinuating that the former has “clear-cut involvement” in the controversy.
“Anyone knows the address Chiong Yoke Kong 张玉刚 or perhaps he himself is brave enough to share it with me? My lawyer has a love letter for brother Chiong,” penned the Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) president in a recent Facebook (FB) post.
“Not wanting to discuss on podcasts (with me) is fine, I’m not petty BUT don’t ever make an inappropriate statement. As an ex-YB (state assemblyman), you must know the law, right? After this. we’ll only chat through our lawyers, brother Chiong.”
In a FB post, Chiong has claimed that the ‘sock-gate’ controversy could have been resolved in a more amicable manner had Firdaus immediately lodged a police report upon coming across with the “problematic socks”.
“By so doing, the police could have commenced an investigation and take appropriate action but instead, he (Firdaus) resorted to viralling the matter on social media, thus igniting tension and spark anger among our Muslim friends,” asserted the former editor-in-chief of DAP’s mouthpiece Rocket.
“If this is not tantamount to instigation, then what is this? Henceforth, the need to debate with him over podcast doesn’t arise at all. Siapa yang makan cili, dia yang rasa pedas (literally whoever eats the chili feels the burn). The Chinese idiom has it that one’s action will be duly evaluated by the society.”
The rough patches between the Jinjang-born Firdaus who converted to Islam on Aug 10, 2005 and the former Pahang state assembly opposition leader surfaced recently when Chiong branded Firdaus as “sampah masyarakat” (literally scumbag) in a comment to a post on Firdaus’ special Ramadan lecture.
This was when Firdaus invited Chiong to his podcast to debate in Malay the topic of ‘Who is the Scum of Society”.
“I’m not even mad at you. Your comment reflects your moral value. I like this brother Chiong. Just go ahead if you want to play politics. I’m not a politician or a member of any political party,” added Firdaus.
Apart from Chiong, Firdaus also has a bone to pick with a netizen Awang Shahime for insinuating that he “hired someone to place the socks in KK Mart”.
“Who knows Awang Shahime? Please ask him to give me his phone number & address for my lawyer to send him a love letter. “Don’t de-activate your (social media) account. If you dare to slander, you must also dare to furnish the details for me to send my legal suit, right?” – March 26, 2024
