DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim is seen arriving at Perdana Putra at 9.53 am for the symbolic “clock-in” ceremony.
Anwar is clad in a ‘baju melayu’ and capal in preparation for Friday prayers. This was followed by the doa (prayer) recitation.
Among those accompanying him were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Azizan Harun.
Others present were Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Army Chief General Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain.
Not long after, Anwar mentioned in his first press conference after clocking in as prime minister that his main priority at the moment is to tackle the cost of living issue.
“I have sought a detailed discussion on immediate steps to be taken to reduce this pressure (on the people) and I will hold an urgent meeting with the relevant departments and agencies soon.
“If they don’t mind, I’m asking to meet this weekend or by Monday at the latest. I know it’s a public holiday, but if they don’t mind, they can postpone the day off,” he added.
According to Anwar, he believes the officers will entertain his request as they understand the urgency of the matter.
Meanwhile, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that the consumer price index for last year increased by 4% compared to October 2021.
DOSM added that this rate still outpaced Malaysia’s average inflation rate from January 2011 to October 2022 (2%).
