First Halal Taiwan Week brought cheer to businesses amid challenging times

THE inaugural virtual Halal Taiwan Week which kickstarted on Sept 14 (2pm) ended on Sept 16, bringing some cheer to business community of many nations amid challenging times.

Launched by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) via online broadcast, the three-day event was aimed at advertising local firms and introducing a Muslim-friendly environment in Taiwan using a series of activities, including an online International Halal Industry Webinar, one-on-one online Business Matchmaking and an online show of halal products.

During the event, its online website showcased more than 60 premium halal products suppliers from Taiwan. This event attracted attention of over 400 businesses from several countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey and several African countries.

Plus, more than 50 online business matching meetings were held as well. The online show which will be running until end-October can be viewed at https://halaltaiwanweek.taiwantrade.com/.

In April 2017, TAITRA was entrusted by the Government to set up the Taiwan Halal Centre and help promote the Taiwanese Halal industry. After much effort, Taiwan’s Muslim tourism-friendly image hit record high.

For this year, it was ranked second among all non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (non-OIC) countries in terms of Muslim-friendly travel in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI).

Taiwan tied with the UK in the second place and trailed only after Singapore. The survey provided some exciting news for Taiwan’s tourism industry amid challenges brought by COVID-19.
