TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has mentioned that Malaysians utilising the KTMB Shuttle Tebrau could soon have the opportunity to avail the train service at a fixed rate of RM5 for each journey.
The DAP leader said the current price for a one-way ticket from Johor Baru to Woodlands, Singapore is RM5, while the ticket for the opposite direction is SGD5 (RM17.30). The shuttle is used by many, with a daily load of 10,000 passengers taking this service.
“KTMB has proposed to change the pricing structure of the tickets for our citizens as currently, the price is different between a ticket from Johor to Singapore and a ticket from Singapore to Johor.
“I welcome the suggestion and will discuss the matter with the Land Public Transport Agency. We hope it can be done by early next year,” he said at a press conference after the Johor DAP convention today.
Loke also pointed out that there was still time to discuss with Singapore the continuation of Shuttle Tebrau after the completion of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project. The project will take three years to complete.
On a separate note, Loke stated there are no discounts will be offered on traffic summonses issued by the road transport department (JPJ).
He also said there was a need to send a message that summonses for road traffic offences were meant to educate, while an offer of discounts might imply leniency.
Moreover, the police are currently offering discounts of up to 50% for selected traffic summonses in conjunction with the unity government’s first anniversary.
The discount on traffic summonses, offered in conjunction with the Madani government’s one-year anniversary celebration at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, left hundreds frustrated and waiting for hours to pay up.
Those who were able to pay by scanning their QR codes considered themselves lucky, but after their numbers ran out, they were forced to wait and settle their dues at the police counters. – Dec 10, 2023
