For Pete’s sake, please stop assuming ancestral ties makes Malaysian Chinese “more loyal to China”

NATIONALISTIC politicians must stop accusing Malaysian Chinese of divided loyalty in their quest to gain political mileage.

As it is, the act of mudslinging by branding the Chinese as traitors has become so deeply entrenched as political capital so much so that the late fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) before his recent demise contended that the three top life priorities of the Chinese and Malay communities can be summarised as follows:

Chinese

  1. Education
  2. Culture and tradition
  3. Freedom to do business

Malay

  1. Religion
  2. Race
  3. Politics

“This is the difference between a Chinese and Malay DNA and because of this, the Malays started to scold/blame the Chinese for their own failures,” observed the Malaysia Today editor who died on Sept 9 at the age of 74 from “blood infection that spread to his lungs and later to his liver”.

Orang Melayu ni, we have to wake up lah, dah lah awak ni failure, dah lah awak ni gagal, awak malukan bangsa awak dengan tuduh bangsa lain atas punca kegagalan awak …”

Indeed, RPK’s observation runs parallel to how pro-opposition Malays – no thanks to the intense brainwashing by politicians who play race card – tend to generalise the Chinese in a Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) sales pitch targeting China citizens.

For context, the video was re-posted by Ratu Naga – the political activist and social media influencer with an opposition slant – whose real name is Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah.

“… we already have traitors in our own country … plans are being hatched around us that we don’t know,” fear was cast by a commenter.

“Most of the Chinese are still very much Chinese in their soul, hence their loyalty still lies with their country of origin (China) even though they were born in Malaysia. If you still can’t figure out yourself after watching this video I don’t know what else to say.”

This is where DAP became an easy target with insecurity leading to the entire Chinese race – Malaysians and China Chinese – getting cursed even when the MM2H programme is well-intended to prosper the Malaysian economy.

“Danger lies ahead if the Malaysian government continues to allow the C ethnic group to enter the country in a big way,” the alarm bell gets louder.

“They can de-stabilise the country as enforcement officers dare not take action against them. Moreover, these C ethnic groups can easily obtain Malaysia ICs … this can spell an end to Malay rulers and Malay ministers.”

These are only a few disgusting remarks as to how the Chinese are politically demonised even though the truth is – as one Chinese commenter pointed out – “Malaysia Chinese dislike mainland Chinese just like the sentiment between Taiwanese and China”.

Recall that just last week, human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim lambasted the Malays for their lack of empathy following a barrage of disrespectful social media comments on two Chinese tourists – a man and his daughter – who were killed when an uprooted tree crushed their car parked at the Penang Peranakan Mansion on Wednesday (Sept 18).

Well, ignorance breeds intense and unreasonable hatred that needs to be eradicated swiftly to foster greater unity among Malaysians. – Sept 24, 2024
