FOREIGN investors extended their net buying spree to a second week on Bursa Malaysia during the July 13-17 trading week with inflow amounting to RM612.3 mil or around eight times higher than the previous week’s inflow of RM75.3 mil.
They were net buyers on four out of five trading days during the week with the highest inflows recorded on Thursday (July 16) at RM238.7 mil, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).
“This was followed by Tuesday (July 14) (RM174.1 mil), Wednesday (July 15) (RM140.8 mil) and Friday (July 17) (RM92.1 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report. “The only outflow was seen on Monday (July 13) (-RM33.4 mil).”
The top three sectors that recorded net inflow from foreign institutions were financial services (RM754.1 mil), utilities (RM194.9 mil) and plantation (RM66.9 mil).
Meanwhile, the three largest sectors with net outflow were industrial products & services (-RM256.0 mil), technology (-RM98.5 mol) and consumer products & services (-RM64.3 mil).

Om the contrary, local institutions extended their net selling streak to a second week with outflow of -RM305.9 mil.
Likewise, retailers returned to net selling after the previous week’s buying with outflows of -RM306.4 mil.
The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad base increase with retailers up by +34.3%, local institutions (+25.8%) and foreign institutions (+40.8%).
In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, Thailand extended its net foreign buying streak to three successive weeks with foreign inflow of US$407.5 mil.
This came as the country remained classified as an upper-middle-income economy under the World Bank’s latest income classification with gross national income (GNI) per capita of US$7,700.
Indonesia returned to net foreign buying after nine consecutive weeks of selling with inflow of US$25.0 mil as its foreign direct investment (FDI) surged +27.4% year-on-year (yoy) to a record 257.7 tril rupiah (approx RM58.66 bil) in 2Q 2026, the strongest growth since 4Q 2024.
Elsewhere, the Philippines extended its net buying streak to a second week with inflow of US$14.5 mil but Vietnam extended its net foreign selling streak to 18 consecutive weeks with outflow of -US$81.2 mil.
The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Public Bank Bhd (RM500.4 mil), Tenaga Nasional Bhd (RM228.9 mil) and Malayan Banking Bhd (RM78.8 mil). – July 20, 2026
