MALAYSIAN-born actress, singer and lecturer Dr Soo Wincci has wowed the public once more with her commitment to fast during the holy month of Ramadhan for the 12th year. Not only that, she also fasts six days during Syawal.
“Fasting is not just for sustaining health but it can also help with mental and physical strength and better focus when working,” Harian Metro reported Dr Soo as saying.
Soo has been sharing her journey with fasting through Instagram during suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (the meal eaten by Muslims to break their fast after sunset).
The actress said she felt quite tired on her first day of fasting yesterday (March 23) due to her involvement in filming the 15-episode miniseries The Queen’s Ploy.
“I’m busy filming a drama this Ramadhan and only ate a simple meal to break the fast on location. If there is time, I would usually buy food at the Ramadhan bazaar,” she added.
Moreover, to maintain energy levels throughout the day, Soo decided to eat dates, grapes, raw food and drink coffee. If she eats rice in the morning (5am), she feels hungrier throughout the day.
Soo also pointed out that her parents and family members had been supportive and able to accept her practise of fasting during the month of Ramadhan.
“When I first started fasting, many objected because I am not a Muslim. However, over time, my parents and family members accepted with an open heart. In fact, my parents even accompanied me to buy dates and break the fast together.”
Earlier in her career, Soo was crowned Miss World Malaysia in 2008 and represented Malaysia in the Miss World 2008 beauty pageant. In 2018, the Chinese media nicknamed her “The Most Beautiful Dr” in addition to having four entries in the Malaysia Book of Records. — March 24, 2023
